Unveiling the Mystery of Diamonds
Diamonds are one of the earth’s oldest and greatest treasures and the most sought after of all precious gems in the world – but if you ever wondered where they come from or how did they get here, and what is their story; the answers are both interesting and amazing. The magic and mystery of diamonds have fascinated and intrigued mankind for centuries. No tool could cut them and no fire could burn them, which led many to believe that diamonds had supernatural powers. The word diamond comes from the Greek word ADAMAS which means indestructible. The first diamonds discovered were around 2,500 years ago in the Golconda region of India mentioned in a Sanskrit manuscript dated back to the 4th century BC. Ancient Greeks believed diamonds were the tears of the Gods, Romans believed diamonds were shards of the stars, while Indians believed they were good luck charms to ward off illness, thieves, and forces of evil. In fact, it was a common belief among Kings that wearing a diamond into battle would magically protect the wearer and they actually wore them into battle.
Still today, diamonds remain sought after by the world’s most wealthy and powerful people. Probably 99% of people know very little about diamonds, for the main reason: they do not need to. Nor do most realize that a diamond has a very long journey with many processes before it gets to be worn in a piece of jewelry. Women will learn and retain more diamond knowledge than most men for the simple reason that generally a man buys one diamond in his life when he is proposing to his bride, possibly a second if a divorced. Women on the other hand, love diamonds in all colors, shapes, and sizes (especially large ones!). Women often buy diamond jewelry, collect and wear diamonds proudly, appreciate, and understand values much more than men and for many reasons, these are a few: For women diamonds are symbolic of love and often represent something unique to pass on to their daughters (and often the same diamond they had received from their mother). The brilliance and sparkle and the way it makes a woman look, feel and glow, and no other jewelry lasts longer than diamonds or has the feel of revered status than diamonds, Diamonds never go out of style and unique jewelry gives a woman a sense of exclusivity. More uniquely, diamonds match everything!
